MTHS Choral Ensembles
Chorale - 7th Period - Audition Required

Year - 1.0 credit; Sophomore, Junior, or Senior; Prerequisite - None
Chorale is an auditioned ensemble comprised of sophomore, junior, and senior students at MTHS. Sight-reading skills, ear training, and music theory knowledge will be stressed on a daily basis for this course, but previous knowledge will be a requirement. Members of this ensemble will also be expected to demonstrate quality vocal skills and vocal tone awareness. This ensemble will perform at numerous MTHS concerts, choral festivals, and community events throughout the school year.
Chorale students are highly encouraged to audition for Honor Choirs (ACDA Honor Choir, ILMEA Honor & All State Choirs, Bradley Honor Choirs, etc.) and Specialty Groups (Madrigal Singers, Court Singers, Vocal Jazz, Solo & Ensemble Contest, etc.).
Auditions typically take place in March or April of the previous school year.
Average Size - 40 to 45 members

Sight-reading skills, ear training, and music theory knowledge are stressed on a daily basis for this course. Members of this ensemble must also be able to demonstrate quality vocal skills and vocal tone awareness. This ensemble performs at numerous MTHS concerts, choral festivals, and community events throughout the school year. Previous choral experience is not required for this course.

Freshmen Choir is a non-auditioned group that is open to all freshmen students at MTHS. Sight-reading skills, ear training, and music theory knowledge will be introduced and reviewed on a daily basis for this course. Members of this choir will be learning how to demonstrate quality vocal skills and vocal tone comprehension. This ensemble performs at numerous MTHS concerts throughout the school year. Previous choral experience is not required for this course.
Freshmen Choir students are encouraged to audition for Honor Choirs (ACDA Honor Choir, ILMEA Honor & All State Choirs, Bradley Honor Choirs, etc.) and Specialty Groups (Madrigal Singers, Court Singers, Vocal Jazz, Solo & Ensemble Contest, etc.).

Madrigal Singers - Fall Semester Only - Audition Required

The Madrigal Singers is an auditioned ensemble that is open to any student currently enrolled in choir at MTHS. This ensemble rehearses three times each week (typically Monday evenings, Tuesday mornings, and Thursday mornings). Sight-reading skills, ear training, and music theory knowledge will be required and stressed on a daily basis. Members of this ensemble must also demonstrate exceptional vocal skills and vocal tone awareness. This ensemble performs at the annual MTHS Madrigal Dinner, along with numerous MTHS concerts, choral festivals, and community events throughout the fall semester. All members of the Madrigal Singers must also be enrolled in one choral ensemble during the school day.
Members of the Madrigal Singers ensemble are eligible to re-audition for Madrigal Singers and Court Singers, as well as audition for Vocal Jazz, Solo & Ensemble Contest, ACDA Choral Auditions, ILMEA District Choral Auditions, and other specialty groups.

Members of the Madrigal Singers ensemble are eligible to re-audition for Madrigal Singers and Court Singers, as well as audition for Vocal Jazz, Solo & Ensemble Contest, ACDA Choral Auditions, ILMEA District Choral Auditions, and other specialty groups.
Auditions typically take place in April or May of the previous school year.

Court Singers - Fall Semester Only - Audition Required

The Court Singers is an auditioned ensemble that is open to any student currently enrolled in choir at MTHS. This ensemble rehearses three times each week (typically Monday evenings, Wednesday mornings, and Friday mornings). Sight-reading skills, ear training, and music theory knowledge will be reviewed on a daily basis for this course, as well as the addition of new mastery skills in these areas. Members of this ensemble must also demonstrate excellent vocal skills and vocal tone awareness. This ensemble performs at the annual MTHS Madrigal Dinner, along with numerous MTHS concerts, choral festivals, and community events throughout the fall semester. All members of the Court Singers ensemble must also be enrolled in one choral ensemble during the school day.
Members of the Court Singers ensemble are eligible to re-audition for Madrigal Singers and Court Singers, as well as audition for Vocal Jazz, Solo & Ensemble Contest, ACDA Choral Auditions, ILMEA District Choral Auditions, and other specialty groups.

Members of the Court Singers ensemble are eligible to re-audition for Madrigal Singers and Court Singers, as well as audition for Vocal Jazz, Solo & Ensemble Contest, ACDA Choral Auditions, ILMEA District Choral Auditions, and other specialty groups.
Auditions typically take place in April or May of the previous school year.
Average Size - 9 to 25 members
Vocal Jazz Ensemble - Spring Semester Only - Audition Required

The Vocal Jazz Ensemble is open to any student currently enrolled in choir at MTHS. This ensemble rehearses three times each week (typically Monday evenings and two mornings). Sight-reading skills, ear training, improvisation, and music theory knowledge will be required and stressed on a daily basis. Members of this choir must also demonstrate exceptional vocal skills and vocal tone awareness. This ensemble performs at numerous MTHS concerts, festivals, and community events throughout the spring semester. All members of the Vocal Jazz Ensemble must also be enrolled in one choral period during the school day.
Vocal Jazz Ensemble students are eligible to re-audition for the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, audition for Madrigals and other specialty groups, Solo & Ensemble Contest, and ILMEA District and All-State Vocal Jazz Ensembles.
Auditions typically take place in December or January of the current school year.
Average Size - 5 to 16 members in each ensemble
Vocal Jazz Ensemble students are eligible to re-audition for the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, audition for Madrigals and other specialty groups, Solo & Ensemble Contest, and ILMEA District and All-State Vocal Jazz Ensembles.
Auditions typically take place in December or January of the current school year.
